5 Courses after BSc Nursing

Each year students pass out of school with many aspirations of engaging themselves in service sector especially the health care industry. The health care industry has opened up many new opportunities where the aspirants can excel, over the last decades. Now the options that are left open for the students are much more diverse than what it used to be years ago. Back in the day, students had a belief that MBBS/BDS was the best option left for those students who have completed their class 12 with physics, chemistry and biology as the major subject. Other degree courses such as Nursing was only an afterthought for those students who were not as successful as others, who got seats for MBBS. But in the recent times the options are widely ranged for the aspirants who wish to follow the medical field without the pressure of NEET.

 

Nursing is just one option for such students and this course would not take us into a dead end leaving the students with just one option of becoming a nurse. As we know, nurses across the world are suffering from a wide range of problems in their profession like the lack of adequate salary, the work pressure and so on. Still there is hope for such candidates who wish to take tangent road after their degree in BSc Nursing. Given below are selected five courses that a student can pursuit after completing BSc Nursing:

 

MSc Nursing:

 

MSc Nursing is a Post-Graduation degree for registered nurses and is considered as the entry level degree for nurse educators. Those students who have successfully completed their BSc Nursing from a recognized institute can apply for this course. The degree also may prepare a nurse to seek a career as a nurse administrator, health policy expert, or clinical nurse leader.This course can specialize in different field such as acute care, adult, family, gerontology, neonatology, palliative care, paediatric, psychiatric, or obstetrics and gynaecological nursing. Like other Post Graduation Course it is a two-year course. Many institutes also provide part time courses as well. Admission criteria might vary according to the particular institute.

 

MHA or Master of Hospital administration:

 

Master of Hospital Administration is master’s level professional degree granted to students who complete a course of study in the knowledge and competencies needed for careers in the management of hospitals and other health services organizations, as well as public health infrastructure and consulting. This course enhances the students’ skills such as leadership, administration of hospitals, and health care systems. As the name suggests, this academic program deals with hospital administration. This makes it a management education program. But this course focuses on hospital administration. The duration of the course is two-years but it may vary from institute to institute. Aspiring students who have completed their Bachelor’s in any Science stream can choose this program.

 

MPH or Master of Public Health:

 

Master of Public Health is professional degree awarded for students studying in the areas related to public health. This degree focuses on public health practices and nothing like researching or teaching. MPH degrees, in addition to including a core curriculum, will usually also let students pursue a specialization in a specific field, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, or health management.The duration of this course for a full time course is two-year but it may extend depending on part-time. BSc Nurses with two years’ experience can apply for this course or candidates with a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university, with at least 50% marks.

 

MSW or Master of Social Work:

 

The Master of Social Work or MSWis a master's degree in the field of social work.It is a much more professional degree compared to the Bachelor’s in Social Work. The career in Social Working is all about helping others in need. Normally, any stream graduates are eligible for this course. After completing an MSW degree, candidates can work as healthcare social workers, clinical social workers, therapists or social workers in the field of medical health, mental health as well as educational fields. A full time MSW course is of two years’ duration and candidates can complete their MSW course even as a part time course.

 

MSc Clinical Research:

 

This is a two-year post graduate course in medicine. It is a branch of healthcare science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use. The minimum eligibility needed for applying to the course is the successful completion of graduation from a recognized university in any of the medical courses like nursing. The course extends within the span of two-years. The admission process may vary from institute to institute.
